I have not been able to find the author nor any kind of precise explanation for this design. It is just one of my favourites. There is a vocabulary of forms and symbols that are used throughout all the Ukrainian designs and I will elaborate on this as I learn more - for example, a certain kind of zig-zag means strength or prosperity.
